Lemon basil is sweet and citrusy, often used in teas, desserts, smoothies and tropical dishes. It makes a wonderful aromatic bouquet with bright green thin leaves, white flowers and a sweet scent of lemon. It grows like a weed in hot dry summer climates! Basils love the heat and can handle temperatures over 100+ degrees if watered regularly.
To plant, simply sow the seeds 1/4 inch deep in well-drained soil and place in a sunny spot. Keep the soil consistently moist and watch as these beautiful plants begin to sprout within 7-10 days. Once the plants reach about 6 inches tall, you can start harvesting the leaves. To harvest, simply pick the leaves from the plant and use them fresh or dried in a variety of culinary dishes.
